Lauderdale to Half Moon Cay, Curacao & Aruba 7 Nights On Holland America Westerdam Hosted By: Silver Coast Winery, Ocean Isle, NC www.silvercoastwinery.com After two years of grinding it out at college in a Math/Science major, Dana Keeler, the Silver Coast Winemaker, decided to take a semester off and work at one of the local Finger Lakes wineries for the harvest period before continuing his education. He took a position at Bully Hill Vineyards and soon found out what his life’s calling was to be. Progressing from vineyard worker to harvest boss that fall was followed by an offer to work in the champagne cellar. Within 6 months, he was promoted to cellar master and began an apprenticeship with the winemaker, Hermann Wiemer. In 1979 he assumed the mantle of winemaker and general manager of Bully Hill. Following Bully Hill he worked as winemaker or winemaker/general manager at a number of the leading wineries of the region ( Hermann Wiemer, Knapp Vineyards, Dr. Frank’s Wine Cellar, Heron Hill) and consulted with numerous others. In 2003 his consulting led to exposure to the North Carolina wine scene and in 2004 he accepted a position with Silver Coast Winery after seeing the potential of this new region. He continues his career of producing award winning, distinctive wines in this new and exciting wine region.
Fox Run Vineyards, Penn Yan, NY International politics were the first interest Scott Osborn, Rochester, NY native and son of two professors. He attended the Friends World College with campuses all over the world, and studied in Kenya, India, Thailand, Japan, and England. After college, in the mid 1970s, he went into the real estate development business in Lake County California, where he discovered his passion for wine. In 1980 he took his first job in the industry, labeling bottles at Konocti Winery. His aptitude led to cellar master positions at Firestone Vineyards, Zaca Mesa, and Byron Winery. Returning east in 1986, Osborn soon realized that the Finger Lakes region was where he wanted to make his mark producing wine, eventually with his own establishment. He worked for a distributor, then became general manager of Long Island’s Pindar Vineyards in 1988. After two years, he moved back to Rochester and began the search that would lead to the purchase of Fox Run, in partnership with Andy Hale, in 1993. Since then he has made his home Fox Run’s lovingly renovated century old farmhouse.
