Brussels, 15 November 2017 – Today, the UK Supreme Court declared proportionate the Scottish Government's minimum unit pricing (MUP) legislation, and dismissed the common appeal of CEEV, Scotch Whisky Association and spiritsEUROPE.

“We regret, but respect, the Supreme Court decision and hope to count on the Scottish government to ensure a smooth implementation of this legislation, in a way that would as much as possible limit market distortion and preserve a level-playing field.” said Jean-Marie Barillère, President of CEEV.

Nijmegen, 13 november 2017. Per heden is het eigendom van De Bruijn Wijnkopers in Nijmegen volledig in handen gekomen van Eric de Bruijn (zevende generatie). Eric trad in 1998 in dienst bij het familiebedrijf en is eindverantwoordelijk voor de onderneming. Echtgenote Marianne de Bruijn, sinds 2009 werkzaam bij het bedrijf, treedt per direct toe tot de directie van Nederlands oudste wijnkoperij. 

Vandaag heeft het OIV een persconferentie georganiseerd waarbij de cijfers van de wereldwijde wijnproductie over 2017 zijn gepresenteerd. De voornaamste conclusies waren: 

• Zeer lage productie in Europa: de productieopbrengsten in Italië (39,3 miljoen HL), Frankrijk (36,7 miljoen HL) en Spanje (33,5 miljoen HL) zijn historisch laag. 
• Ook in Duitsland is de productie lager (8,1 miljoen HL).

Brussels, 18 October 2017 – Ahead of the European Council taking place in Brussels this week, the European spirit drink and wine industries have sent a joint position paper to the Brexit negotiators raising the five priority issues of the producers to minimize disruption of trade flows and stressing the need for a transitional period.

The European spirit drink and wine industries are iconic and economically vital sectors; rooted in culture and tradition but also modern and highly innovative.

There are large, well-established and balanced wine and spirit drink trade flows between the EU and UK, with €2.3bn of UK wine and spirits products going to the EU27 every year, and €2.9bn of European wine and spirits travelling the other way.

Below is a brief update of the current situation:

STATUS:

• Steady progress is being made to bring the fires under control, evacuations are being lifted and cooler weather and rain are forecast this week.

WINERIES:

• Of the approximately 1,200 wineries in Mendocino, Napa and Sonoma counties, the regions most impacted, it is reported that less than ten have been destroyed or heavily damaged.
• Five vineyard properties totaling about 200 acres in Potter Valley area of Mendocino are reported damaged. Because many areas were evacuated, some winery owners do not have access to their properties to assess the status, so the situation remains fluid.
• Mendocino, Napa and Sonoma, represent about 12 percent of overall California winegrape production combined. California accounts for 85% of U.S. wine production and is the fourth leading wine producer in the world.
